51ºÚÁÏ

Introducing 51ºÚÁÏ's New Head of Senior Years - Peta Trahair

A huge congratulations to Mrs Peta Trahair - our new Head of Senior Years. Thank you Peta for providing us with the below information. We wish you all the very best for your new role - we are excited, and we know our students are too. They are in caring, capable hands. Thank you!

"Hi, my name is Peta Trahair and I am the Head of Senior Years at 51ºÚÁÏ College. My husband Luke and I have our 7 year old son Jack in Year 2 at the Palmerston Campus. The values of the College really resonate with us and we love the safe and happy learning environment the school provides. Luke is Territory born and bred and even though I started off in NSW, I call the NT my home.

We love sport, in particular our rugby league – I am a passionate Newcastle Knights and NSW fan and happy to talk about that to anyone who comes to my door!

I have been teaching at 51ºÚÁÏ for over 12 years in a variety of subjects and campuses. I first started back in 2010 at the Palmerston Campus as the PE Teacher and Sports Coordinator. I also coordinated 51ºÚÁÏ netball and saw some tremendous talent develop! From there I progressed to teaching at each of our Junior Schools, as well as teaching Middle School PHE. I became the Co-curricular Coordinator across every campus which was a massive job but I loved being a part of all aspects of our College.

I was heavily involved in School Sport NT, Pints Netball and Netball NT whilst working at 51ºÚÁÏ and all of this saw me be awarded with the 2019 Coach of the Year at the NT Sports Awards.

After moving to Karratha in Western Australia I came back into the role of Hughes Wellbeing Leader as well as teaching PHE and moving into Food Design – which I absolutely love! It is a passion I have developed later in my teaching career and it is just so much fun.

Hughes Head of House was a fantastic role and experience – being able to support students and families was a real highlight and passion; and it is something that will hopefully enable me to be a relational Head of Senior Years. I want to be able to facilitate and challenge our students to grow and expand their possibilities by engaging in all that our incredible College has to offer. I want our students to feel supported in their strengths and in their struggles.

I am really looking forward to connecting with all of our Senior School students and families to continue growing our strong and positive 51ºÚÁÏ community and culture."
